Bike and Multi-Use PathsCorollaSeveral multi-use paths run along N.C. 12 from the village of Corolla to Sanderling, with several narrower paths connecting and running through various neighborhoods. The shoulders of N.C. 12 are 5-feet wide on the Currituck Outer Banks. DuckA 6-mile multi-use path runs parallel to N.C. 12 the entire length of the town, from Sanderling to Southern Shores. Southern ShoresA 6-mile multi-use path runs along N.C. 12 from Duck to Town Hall and then west on U.S. 158 to connect with trails in Kitty Hawk Woods. Kitty HawkThe Paul Pruitt Multi-Use Trail is a 6-mile trail that winds through Kitty Hawk Woods. N.C. 12 (the beach road) has 3 to 4-foot paved shoulders for experienced cyclists. Kill Devil HillsA 10-mile multi-use path runs along Colington Road and past the Wright Brothers National Memorial. This path connects with the soundside streets and neighborhoods to Kitty Hawk. N.C. 12 (the beach road) has 6-foot paved shoulders. Nags HeadAn asphalt multi-use path runs parallel to N.C. 12 from the Kill Devil Hills town line for 7 miles, and the road shoulders are 4 feet wide. An additional 6 miles of concrete path parallels Old Oregon Inlet Road in South Nags Head. Roanoke IslandA multi-use path runs 7 miles from the north end of Roanoke Island to the midway intersection. Hatteras IslandFrom the Herbert Bonner Bridge over Oregon Inlet to Hatteras Village, N.C. 12 has 4 to 5 foot wide paved shoulders suitable for experienced cyclists. |
